Eugenia (Genia) T. Beccarelli, age 92, passed away January 14, 2021.
She left us to be with the Lord that she loved deeply.
Genia’s father Antonio Beccarelli immigrated from Italy to New York
City in the early 1900’s, and her mother Sara (also of Italian descent)
was born in New York City; they made their home in the Bronx, New
York where Genia was raised along with her older brother David.
In 1946, as an eighteen-year-old just out of Evander Childs High
School, Genia began what became a long career working for the
New York Telephone Company. In 1963, along with her best friend
Marie, Genia transferred to the Los Angeles branch known as PacTel
(AT&T Inc.). Genia worked her way up to a supervisory position in the
accounting department. Upon retirement Genia said she felt
fortunate to have spent her entire career of 37 years with one
company.
Genia’s transfer to the Los Angeles area enabled her to live close to
her brother David and his six children in San Diego. For many years
Genia lived in the Hollywood area until moving to Studio City.
Genia’s nephews and nieces loved to come to Los Angeles to visit
Genia; they considered her the best aunt in the world. She was very
generous not only to them, but to everyone who knew her.
Genia was a devoted lifelong Catholic who was heavily involved in
church activities, as well as the Italian Catholic Federation. She
loved Jesus which was evident to anyone who entered her home or
knew her. She was a kind soul who had a knack of bringing out the
goodness in people. She was a giver of time and money,
volunteering and sending donations to just about every
organization she supported. She also loved those bingo nights.
In addition, Genia served two years as the President of the
Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild where she was an
integral part year after year raising funds for those in medical need.
Genia also enjoyed traveling to various U.S. cities along with a few
trips to Italy. Her trips included several “back to her roots” trips to
New York to visit family and friends. She enjoyed collecting match
books from various restaurants across the places she visited, as well
as all over Los Angeles.
Genia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David, her
best friend Marie, her nephews David and Anthony Beccarelli, and
her niece Linda Gabbert. She is survived by her nephews Steven
and Timothy Beccarelli, and her niece Judith Milne.
We leave you with this verse from Genia’s beloved Bible.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 And the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
