A proud and highly decorated US Army veteran, George served in the US Army as a rocket launcher and marksman in Company C 326th Parachute Engineers and in the 101st Airborne Division from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Holland; the Good Conduct Medal; the European/African/Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal with Arrowhead Victory Medal; the American Theater Campaign Medal; the Presidential Unit Citation for his participation at Normandy; and the Presidential Unit Citation Lapel Button for Bastogne. After the war, George returned to southern California where he became a carpenter and built a house for his growing family in Sylmar, CA. He was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 209 for many years. And when he retired, George was active with local senior citizens groups, enjoyed traveling and cruises, and excelled in ballroom dancing. He was married to and divorced from Mary Jessie Tostado, who predeceased him in 2015. George is survived by his four children: Clifford A. Ramirez, Georgia Ann Badosa, Patricia Ann Roldan, and Steven Ramirez; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services are scheduled Wednesday, February 16, at Angeleno Valley Mortuary, North Hollywood, with internment the following day at the Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Disabled American Veterans, of which George was a member.
