At age 94, Mary Kirkland passed away peacefully on June 21 at Sherman Oak Hospital where
she was receiving end of life hospice care for several days. She is survived by her brother,
Amando, and sister, Alice; her children, Denise, Douglas, Jessica, and Johnny; her
grandchildren, James, Tammy, Tony, Amy, and Christine; and 8 great-grandchildren and 2 greatgreat-great grandchildren. Mary loved and was close to her family including all her nieces and
nephews.
Such an integral part of this family network, she will be greatly missed by so many. A good
hearted and humble soul, she was someone family could turn to in times of need and more
often than not she would lend a helping hand. Besides her family, Mary loved children and
doggies, especially shih tzus. (I’m sure Tasha, Sheena, Cosmo, and Reddy will be happy to see
you in heaven, mom).
Mary Kirkland’s was a long time resident of North Hollywood. Her family moved from San Diego
to North Hollywood when she was a little girl. She went to Lankershim Elementary, one of the
first elementary schools in the San Fernando Valley, and graduated from North High School.
Mary prayed to Saint Jude and gave to the St. Jude Organization which helps children who are
sick. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving a donation to www.stjude.org.
